Unique Deck Requests

With custom composite decks as their specialty, Breyer Construction & Landscape LLC has provided homeowners with beautiful results. Matt Breyer, President of Breyer Construction & Landscape LLC, shares his most unique deck requests from customers.

As a deck designer, I have the unique opportunity to meet with 300 – 400 folks each year who are at some stage of “thinking about” a new deck or repairing/replacing their current deck. Along the course of these encounters, I have had some questions or requests that the client felt was unique… and there have been some requests that I as a contractor felt were a bit out of the ordinary.

composite deck designFortunately, working with people to design and build “the fun rooms” of the house allows us to creatively work together to answer their questions and satisfy their requests. Keep in mind when working with a qualified deck designer or builder; this is what they do this for a living so there is a good chance that they can address your unique request. For us, we have found that the requests break down into two separate areas: project requests and business requests.

A project request often asks to mix and match different manufacturers of decking and railing, or even using several manufacturers of various components to create a custom deck that isn’t otherwise available on the marketplace.

It may even take finding a manufacturer that is willing to create a custom item to satisfy specific design criteria. Sometimes however, it’s using traditional manufactured products to create a more unique or personalized space, such as a pergola, roof, or gazebo to define a specific area, for example. (more…)

Fiberon Composite Deck Showcase: Peachtree Decks and Porches

For the July installment of our “Deck Showcase” series, Bobby Parks from Peachtree Decks and Porches, LLC in Georgia caught our attention. Peachtree Decks and Porches specializes in designing and building high-quality decks, screened-in porches, open-air porches and outdoor living spaces.

Peachtree Decks and Porches received a request for a new composite deck in Alpharetta, Georgia, in January of 2010.

Here is a peek at what Bobby Parks and Peachtree saw with the client’s original deck.

The customer wanted to create a multi-function outdoor living space usable in various weather conditions and consisting of several activity areas. They also considered the need for a practical flow from upper levels to the patio area below, backyard, and driveway entry.

Final Touches on The Kuppersmith Project Deck

Last week, we introduced you to Danny Lipford‘s Kuppersmith Project and his plans to use Fiberon composite decking and fencing in the renovation of the outdoor living space of this 84-year-old home.

With The Kuppersmith Project almost complete, watch as Allen Lyle and Danny Lipford check in on the progress of the Project’s outdoor living area.  Constructed using Fiberon Horizon decking in Ipe and Fiberon Horizon Plus railing, this new porch is sure to please its future homeowners.

Decking Out The Kuppersmith Project

Since October 2010, building remodeler Danny Lipford has been busy tackling an epic project – the renovation of an 84-year-old Tudor home.  Known as The Kuppersmith Project, this outdated home has been transformed into a modern low-maintenance family home by Lipford Construction.
