Breathtaking Decks

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

During our monthly deck showcase, we are proud to acknowledge some of Fiberon’s esteemed professional deck builders.  While all of our FiberPROs work hard and produce beautiful outdoor living spaces, there are composite decks that we want to call out as “Breathtaking Decks”.

The following decks have been selected for various reasons. To be categorized as a Breathtaking Deck we factored in the following:

  1. Unique deck design
  2. Building environment
  3. Finished project aesthetics
  4. And of course, it has to be built with Fiberon composite decking

Deck Showcase: Centennial Custom Decks

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

It’s a new month, which means a new installment of our “Deck Showcase” series here on On Board! We are happy to introduce Greg Elson and his team from Centennial Custom Decks, out of Centennial, Colorado. Centennial Custom Decks creates custom decks to fit their clients’ lifestyle and budget.

This month’s deck is one of Centennial Custom Decks’ latest Fiberon projects. Located in Colorado, this deck was constructed during the winter of 2010 using Fiberon Horizon composite decking in Rosewood with the Fiberon Hidden Fasteners system.

Taking almost 2 months to complete due to frigid weather, frequent snowstorms and frozen ground, Centennial Custom Decks overcame multiple obstacles. The deck is located on the north side of the house. Due to the lack of sunlight, piles of charcoal briquettes were used to thaw the ground enough to dig footings.

This installation also became more complex, as the hot tub had to be craned in over the top of the house.

Centennial Custom Decks - Spa Installation on Fiberon Decking

Unique features of this project include a storage shed underneath the deck, as well as a water collection system beneath the deck surface so that the patio below can enjoyed at all times.

Other features include a fire pit with a custom bench, wrap around steps for the spa and a built in gas grill. LED post cap and step riser lights act as the cherry on top of this exciting outdoor living space!

If you could design your deck with unique features, what would you include? Share below!

Deck Showcase: California Landscape Decks

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

This month, we kick off our “Deck Showcase” series, featuring the work of FiberPROs from around the country. Check back the first week of each month as we showcase a new FiberPRO and their unique Fiberon projects.

To kick off our Deck Showcase series, we take you to enchanting wine country to introduce you to Gordon Whittaker from Alter Eagle Decks in Northern California. Working in a market with high-demand for an outdoor living space that compliments the natural environment, Gordon has grown to be an expert in landscape decks that conform to the natural look of their surroundings.

When we are called to build decks for customers who would like their deck to flow into the surrounding landscape and environment, these are some of the lighting and design features we used in our past projects. Click the images below for full-size photos.

Bodega Bay Project:

To maintain a dockside theme for an oceanfront complex with grey homes, we reflected the homes angles throughout the deck.  The wooden shakes used for siding on the home were mimicked in the screening beneath the deck.  We also cantilevered the deck across multiple levels to allow it to float into the landscaping and grading of the area.

We used solar lighting to mark the perimeter and low-voltage step lighting for the path. The main focus of this deck was to take advantage of the beautiful ocean views of the area.
