There’s an affirmation for that.

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

Here at the Fiberon offices we have been brainstorming about what would go into an iPad application created for our products.

When I jog I use the Nike Plus GPS app on my iPhone.  It tells me how far, and how fast, and where I went.  This morning, at the end of my run, NBA Champion Dirk Nowitzki came on through my ear buds and said, “Good run.  I’m impressed.”

It got me thinking about what affirmations might work for a Fiberon Decking app for contractors and/or homeowners.

Can you imagine…?

From a recipe app:  “This is Paula Dean.  That’s a nice looking ham!”

From Bob Villa:  “Good job!  You measured twice and cut once!”

From Fernando Lamas, as played by Billy Crystal:   “Your deck looks marvelous”.

From your neighbors and cousins after you build a deck with Fiberon Decking:“We want to come over”.

Can you think of a famous person affirmation that would work in your life, or on your deck?  Send them to me or comment on the blog.

Inside Fiberon: Keeping Cool Underfoot with Outdoor Flooring with Lumenite™ Technology

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

Each month we offer a unique look at Fiberon composite decking products through our “Inside Fiberon” series. This week, we’re looking at Fiberon’s Outdoor Flooring with Sensibuilt Lumenite™ Technology. Read below as Fiberon specialist Bob King discusses how Lumenite offers extraordinary heat resistance.

It is very common for people to complain about their decks becoming too hot to walk on with bare feet. Pain threshold occurs at around 145 degrees Fahrenheit. Most decking, especially those with darker colors, reach that threshold in direct sunlight on very hot days. The infrared light spectrum (650-2500 nanometers) is responsible for the sun’s heat, not ultraviolet, as many believe. Ironically, ultraviolet degradation occurs rapidly and completely as temperatures caused by infrared rise. Ultimately, they work hand-in-hand.

Fiberon has focused a great deal of resources into the science of heat management for our products. Lumenite was developed to possess high performance qualities of fade, stain and mold resistance as well as reduced surface temperatures.

We use solar reflective pigments that are specifically manufactured to be of the proper chemistry, size and shape to provide maximum solar reflectivity. This helps maintain lower than normal surface temperatures. Generally, Lumenite surfaces average 10% lower temperatures compared to other decking with the exact same color.

Because chemical reactions and UV degradation (chalking, fading, etc.) occur much more quickly as the surface temperatures increase, lowering surface temperatures, even a small amount, increases your deck’s color longevity. Lumenite’s unique combination of ingredients gives outdoor flooring long lasting, comfortable decking surface. Learn more about our Outdoor Flooring.

The Kuppersmith Project – Completed to Perfection

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

Over the past few weeks we have followed the progress of Danny Lipford’s most recent renovation — The Kuppersmith Project.  Since October of 2010, the renovation of this 84-year-old Tudor home has been conducted by Lipford Construction with the help of Fiberon composite decking and some other great home products brands.

As seen previously this month, Danny and his team or remodeling professionals chose Fiberon composite decking, railing and fencing for the overhaul of this project’s backyard and outdoor living space.  After all of their hard work, The Kuppersmith Project is finally complete.  Danny and his crew have transformed this home and the use of Fiberon has helped to aesthetically ease the transition from inside the home to the outdoor living space.

See what Danny has to say about the final project and the use of Fiberon composite decking.

Foreman Mark Bufkin shares his thoughts on Fiberon fencing and how it was the perfect fit for this project.  The fence was easy to install, and is appealing for not just the homeowners, but for their neighbors as well.

The final result? A beautiful home with the perfect outdoor living space.

In Deck Design, Form Equals Function

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

FiberPRO Bayn Wood of Michigan’s Autumnwood Construction joins us again to discuss deck design and provide tips for homeowners beginning to plan their own outdoor living space.  Read below to learn how to design a deck that is truly your own with tips from our pro.

Usually form follows function for deck design.  When beginning to design your own deck, start with how you plan on using this space. Most decks have three primary uses – entertaining, grilling, and egress into the backyard – so think of each of these for your own deck.  Typically, the challenge rests in fitting each of these uses into the designated space and budget you have. Most importantly though, you should add personal qualities to your deck by adding your own touch of flair or style into the design.

When we first visit homeowners to estimate on designing and building a deck, I listen closely to the customer to learn how they plan to use the space and what expectations that have for their dream deck. In planning your own deck, here are a few areas to take into consideration:
